Cinnamon Roll Frosted Focaccia

Every now and then one must stray from the straight sourdough path and play around on the fringes of “good bread”. Well, this wasn’t good bread…it was AMAZING BREAD! Granted, it looks more like a coffee cake but who cares? Take a slice, microwave it for a few seconds, and sit down with your coffee and reflect on all things good as you ease into your day.

My well proofed Focaccia Dough

My first attempt…

This was my second attempt at this recipe. And the fault was entirely mine. My first Cinnamon Roll Focaccia came out even better than this one, but when it came time to ice the top, my icing came out clumpy, not sweet, and just terrible tasting. I managed to scrape off the icing and on my second try, I resorted to YouTube for another icing recipe. And…once again…terrible. A clumpy white chalky mess.

I’ve had a string of good luck on my Sourdough Journey so far and my confidence was pretty high, but this knocked me down a few notches. The recipe came from Amy Bakes Bread and if you’re familiar with her site, she has some of the best recipes on the net. Every single one I’ve tried has been outstanding. Now this. What to do???

Well, about this time my wife walked into the kitchen and being the experienced pastry baker that she is, took one look around, focused on the open Tupperware container, and asked, “you don’t think this is powdered sugar, do you?” Of course I said “yeah…it’s for the Focaccia frosting”. She immediately busted out laughing, then looked at me like an idiot, and said, “NO…this is my FLOUR container!”. UGH!!!!

Recipe

This Focaccia was made using the recipe supplied by “Amy Bakes Bread”. I’ve found her recipes to be among the best out there. Instead of listing everything here, just go to her link at: https://amybakesbread.com/cinnamon-roll-sourdough-focaccia/

Second Opinion

I baked this to give to our good friends that we meet once per week for trivia and music-bingo. The next day I got a text saying that it was half gone, and her husband, Steve, heated up a piece in the microwave to have with his morning coffee. When he got home from work later that day he again told his wife how much he enjoyed the Focaccia. So there ya go…it’s a great use of sourdough and will make you famous among your good friends. 😉
